MEDIEVAL/POST MEDIEVAL IRON ARROW HEADS (4) AND KNIFE

c. 1000-1600 AD. Medieval/post-medieval. A lot of one medieval/post-medieval knife (far left) and four arrowheads (from second left to right); 1) medieval iron knife with single-sided pointed blade and elongated, rounded handle; 2) Modified heart-shaped arrowhead with tang; 3) lanceolate arrowhead with slight shoulders, pyramidal section and tang; 4) elongated triangular arrowhead with square section and tang; 5) triangular arrowhead with square section and tang. Arrows were a key part of medieval society both as instruments of war but also as weapons for hunting. One of the most evocative images of arrows as weapons of war appears on the Bayeux Tapestry, where King Harold is depicted after taking an arrow to the eye, leading to the Norman victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD.
