MEDITERRANEAN THEATER: BRITISH NAVAL MESSAGES.
Collection of 47 Naval messages from C in C Mediterranean Station to HMS Malaya and HMS Maidstone. The Mediterranean Theater, May 24th 1938 to June 6th 1940. 47 carbon copies on pink or white paper, comprising communiques and orders from the Admiralty, or C in C, Mediterranean Station to HMS Malaya and HMS Maidstone.
Provenance: Midshipman Andre Boyd, (?Communications operative.)

An interesting group of naval messages 22 after the declaration of war with Germany and 25 before, those before mostly dealing with naval patrols of HMS Malaya with Repulse off Palestine, and events occurring. The post September 3rd 1939 messages deal with German ship movements, the question of Italy joining Germany's side, U Boat attacks, and ends with a message from the First Sea Lord to Captain M.M. Denny, dated 7th June 1940 congratulating him on his appointment as a Companion of the Bath and thanking him for his gallantry in the Norway Campaign, Officer commanding the Andalsnes landings and retreat, and as Chief Staff Officer in Dunkirk during the evacuations.
