On this square format, Medsan launches the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro in full sprint across the rice fields. The creature fills the width, his jaws split in a smile with aligned teeth, whiskers splayed, its large round eyes ringed with orange fixed on the liminal space. Its pointed ears, edged in red, rise above the rows of windows running along its striped flank to the thick tail.
Behind two of these windows, Satsuki and Mei lean outside, elbowed on the edge, one laughing outright, the other more reserved. A small mouse-shaped lamp hangs near the front paw and glows red. Around, the blue-on-white background unfolds electric poles and their wires, a row of low trees on the horizon, and in the foreground standing rice ears that rise to the edge. A fine network of dark cracks and wide gold lines traverses the entire scene, from the cat’s face to the grasses below. The race remains silent, as if held for a second.
