Note:
This painting was probably made for the Duchess of Clarence (later Queen Adelaide wife of William IV of England). Melanie de Comolera studied under the tutelage of Gerard Van Spaindonck (1746-1822) and worked for the Manufacture Nationale de Sevres from 1816-1818. She moved to London in 1827 and there made paintings for the Duchess of Clarence. Comolera later became flower painter to Queen Victoria of England.
