Title: MEN'S ADVENTURES No. 25
Place Published:
Publisher:Atlas [Indicia: Comic Combine Corp.]
Date Published: January, 1954
Description:

CGC certified: VG+ (4.5). Cream to off-white pages. Cover: Syd Shores. No script credits. Art: Bill Everett, Paul Reinman, Mac Pakula, Joe Sinnott. Overstreet: "Shrunken head cover." GPAnalysis: Last recorded sale in this grade: $305 in 2017. Most recent sale in any grade: 3.0 sold for $395 in October 2020.

Men's Adventures started out as tough-guy stuff ("Stories For MEN"), switching to war stories as the Korean War heated up ("Stories Of WAR"). When the Korean War ended in mid-1953 and war comics lost popularity, Men's Adventures became a horror mag ("WEIRD Men's Adventures"). Towards the end of the run, the editors backpedalled on their commitment to horror (hence this ish's "Rugged Tales of Real Adventure" superscription). The last two issues featured a tepid Human Torch revival ("Blaze Into Fiery Action With The Amazing HUMAN TORCH") before flaming out. Many collectors consider #25's shrunken head cover to be the pick of the litter.

A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's December 2021 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Send inquiries to ivan@pbagalleries.com.
