MESA - Giuliano Malimpensa - Candleholder (2) - Silver plated brass

Vintage set of 2 silver-plated candlesticks from the 1980s designed by Giuliano Malimpensa, the founder of the MESA company. These are made in Italy at the MESA factory in Bregnano. Signed as marked in the metal base. This elegant pair would grace any home.

Giuliano Malimpensa started working for Lino Sabattini at the age of 15, where he learned from the master the techniques of handmade silver and brass. Since the 1970s he has collaborated with the great Italian masters of design, such as Gio Ponti and others. He started MESA in 1980 as a small company designed as a studio rather than an 'atelier' in mind, an applied arts laboratory, far removed from the mass production companies and their competitors. Several pieces designed by him are permanently exhibited in the museum “Die Neue Sammlung” in Monaco and in the “Kyoto extension center” in Kyoto, Japan. He also lectures at Seika University, Kyoto, on production design methods in silver. Giuliano's 5 Mesa designs are on permanent display at Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, Germany. And many others have been nominated in various editions of the Compasso d'oro, Italy's leading design prize.
