MEXICAN DOCUMENTS – Coleccion de varias codulas, bandos, y otros papeles. Tom. 6. Mexico, c. 1670-1786.

A bound archive containing over one hundred decrees, royal orders, and other legal documents relating to Mexico in the 17th and 18th centuries. The documents, both printed and manuscript, cover a broad range of topics important to the history of Latin America. Highlights include early mining regulations and licenses, a printed broadside dividing Mexico City into official neighborhoods, laws concerning the native populations of New Spain, the establishment of the first national bank of Spain, and information on the property holdings of Duque de Monteleón y Terranova, Marqués del Valle, an heir of Hernán Cortés—altogether an important primary source for the history of Spanish America.

Folio album (approx. 304 x 210mm). 500 leaves of printed and manuscript documents, numbered 2501 to 3000. Early vellum with title in ink on spine (boards separating).
