λ&nbspMICHAEL FORSTER (INDIAN 1907-2002) CORNFLOWER (GARDEN SERIES) Acrylic and mixed media 40 x 57cm (15½ x 22¼ in.)Please note measurements do not include the frame unless otherwise stated. Born in India, educated in England, and a citizen of Canada, Michael Forster had international artistic roots, making it difficult to place his body of work in any one artistic movement or category. The supremacy of colour was paramount to Forster, who subtly blended layers of paint into gently refined compositions. Such varied and richly abstracted pictures place Forster as a stand-out amongst his contemporaries. It was in 1975 that Forster returned to England. Settling in Treen, Forster's work flourished, his primary concern as a painter being the transference of the experience of light and the patterns of nature into instinctive abstract forms. Following in the footsteps of Constable, he took great inspiration from the ever-changing light and cloud formations of the sky. Forster went beyond Constable, however, in also studying the patterns of the night sky. In 1960, Forster was honoured with a solo-exhibition of eighty works by Mexico's Mueso Nacional de Arte Moderno. He has also been the subject of major retrospectives in London, Luxembourg and Canada. Condition Report: Unexamined out of glazed frame. Stuck down at the corners. Very slight undulation to the sheet. Appears to be in good original condition. Please note Dreweatts are not liable for damage to frames or mounts. Condition Report Disclaimer
