MICHELIN - c.1920
“MICHELIN Guides & Maps—Here”
Rare original double-sided lithographed advertising sheet metal. 48.5 x 40 cm. “Louis Cannard. Billancourt (Seine)”
Good condition -
Double-sided design; the first side remains fresh despite colors that have faded slightly from exposure, with minimal wear primarily along the edges.
The reverse side shows more signs of age, with localized oxidation on the Bibendum and along the edges, a missing section of metal in the upper left corner, and old paint marks from the red gas pump to which it was attached.
-The piece as a whole retains a beautiful appearance-
This sought-after model, originally mounted on gas pumps, served as a price indicator, bearing the word “Tourisme” on a black background.
A piece of automobilia that is particularly rare to find today in its original configuration.
In 1886, André Michelin and his brother Édouard Michelin took over the family business, Barbier-Daubrée. On May 28, 1889, in Clermont-Ferrand, the company’s name was changed to “Michelin et Cie.”
