Title: MISTER MYSTERY No. 8
Place Published:
Publisher:Stanley Morse [Indicia: Aragon Magazines, Inc.]
Date Published: November, 1952
Description:

CGC certified: VG- (3.5). Off-white pages. Cover: Tony Mortellaro? No story credits. Art: Tony Mortellaro, Ed Robbins, Frank Frollo?, Hy Fleishman. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 4.0 sold for $432 in January 2020.

The spinach-hued corpse of a pop-eyed sailor man bursts through a porthole into a woman's cabin (and the readers' nightmares). The perverse image is rife with weird symbolism, with the porthole, sluice and corpse seemingly enacting a bizarro version of childbirth.

This classic mag contains one of Stanley Morse's most outré stories, "Rat-Trap," in which a convict is eaten alive in his prison cell by a huge, bloated rat. "If I were to be consigned to a desert island and allowed only one Gillmor horror story... that story might well be Rat-Trap!" — George Suarez, Tales To Terrible To Tell #9. NEC: 1993, p. 17.

A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's December 2021 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Send inquiries to ivan@pbagalleries.com.
