Japan, Meiji period, late 19th century, in a playful pose with his jacket over his head and the hands hidden in sleeves, dressed in a robe richly decorated with gilt bird-and-foliate scroll design, signed, "Miyao Ei," in a rectangular cartouche verso, mounted on a gilt lacquered wood stand,
