MODEL 1886 WINCHESTER RIFLE IN 45/70.

Cal. 45-70. S# 118951 (1899). The 26" tapered round barrel with Winchester markings on top and caliber mark at rear is fitted with correct style buckhorn rear and German silver blade front sights. Rifle has full length magazine tube. Typical 86 action is marked "Model 1886" on top tang. American walnut buttstock measures 13-1/4" over crescent steel buttplate. CONDITION: good, heavily cleaned; wood sanded. Metal presents overall smooth gray brown with scattered pitting on magazine tube and action. Wood is heavily cleaned and sanded to well below metal and has oil finish. Bore is fair; rifling evident, lightly pitted throughout. Action has a bit of a hitch in its operation, otherwise mechanically good. (26-3618/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
