Boillot Joseph, Modelles artifices de feu. Chaumont, Quentin Mareschal, 1598. The first book printed in Chaumont and the only one printed there in the 16th century. Boillot served in the army of Henri IV and was responsible for the supply of saltpetre, the main ingredient of gunpowder. 8 - 1/2" x 6 - 1/4". First Edition, engraved title with attractive engravings throughout the text. Vellum cover intact with wear and blemishes, slightly warped. Pages appear complete with scattered damp staining, soiling, foxing, etc. Lower right corner of some pages are torn. Missing ties. Despite the blemishes all images and text remain legible and clear. A fine example of an early text. CONDITION: Fair.
