Montblanc in the year 2009 pays tribute to the great revolutionary and leader of the Indian independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi, with two limited editions, one to 241 units and this we present 3000 units.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 and died on 30 January 1948. He was an Indian lawyer, thinker and politician. He is known by the nickname "Mahatma Gandhi". From 1918 he was an outspoken leader of the Indian nationalist movement. He introduced new methods of struggle and in his programmes he rejected armed struggle and preached non-violence as a method of resisting British rule. He was imprisoned several times and soon became a national hero. After gaining independence, Gandhi sought to reform Indian society, focusing on integrating the lower castes and developing rural areas. He disapproved of the religious conflicts that arose after India's independence, defending Muslims, and was assassinated on 30 January 1948. His ashes were thrown into the Ganges River.
The body and cap are made of 925 sterling silver with a fine textile structure on lacquer. The "textile" effect is achieved by laser engraving on a surface that is then covered with cream-coloured lacquer.
The finishes of the fountain pen (clip, rings) are made of sterling silver. The nib is hand-crafted in 18 carat gold. The nib is engraved with the figure of Mahatma Gandhi walking with his staff and the number 4810 beside him. On the cone of the pen is engraved Mahatma Gandhi's signature. A yellow garnet is set in the clip. The star, the symbol of the Hamburg brand, presides over the top of the cap and is made of mother-of-pearl (mother-of-pearl). The star on this piece is ivory-coloured. The upper part of the clip and the lower part of the clip are patterned in the form of a spool of thread.
