- SIGNATURE: 'Monteverde' on once side of the base 'Roma' on the other side, also inscribed 'MCCCCL' (denoting 1450 in Roman numerals the year Columbus was born) with the coat of arms of Genoa and a sketch of a ship on the pier.
- MEDIUM: Patinated bronze raised on black marble.
- AGE: Circa 1870
- SIZE: 22 In. (55cm) (bronze) / 23-1/2 In. (58.75 cm) (overall).
- CONDITION: Very Good to excellent.

BACKGROUND:
Monteverde was born in Bistagno, Italy and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. He later became a professor there. Among his students were Lola Mora and Victor de Pol, who both developed significant public work in Buenos Aires.

He was made an Officer in the Legion d'Honneur in 1878 and an Italian Senator in 1889. He died in Rome in 1917, five days shy of his 80th birthday.
