Book signed, being a good presentation copy, a hardback edition of El Alamein to the River Sangro, First Edition, being the true first edition published for private circulation in the British Army of the Rhine, January 1946, signed by Montgomery to the front free end paper in bold black fountain pen ink, To: My old friend of many years Sir Edward Crowe in the hopes that he will enjoy this tale of human endeavour during World War II. Montgomery of Alamein, Field-Marshal', and dated Christmas 1946 in his hand. Again signed ('Montgomery of Alamein, Field-Marshal') in black fountain pen ink to the pastedown beneath an Ex Libris plate. With numerous folded maps included throughout. Bound in the publishers dark blue cloth with gilt title and decoration. The spine slightly worn at the edges. A rare copy of the privately printed edition with a good association. About VG Sir Edward Crowe (1877-1960) British civil servant and diplomat, President of the Royal Society of Arts 1941-43.
