Monumental Renaissance Revival carved wood cabinet, sideboard or server of impressive architectural scale and exceptionally elaborate craftsmanship. The substantial case is richly decorated throughout with deep relief carving incorporating classical and mythological imagery, including seated female figures, figural medallion scenes, grotesque and theatrical masks, floral and fruit clusters, scrolling acanthus, rosettes and extensive Renaissance-inspired ornament. Dramatic carved male figural supports form the front legs, while the raised upper gallery features carved winged mythological creatures flanking a central panel of scrolling foliage and mask decoration. The large front panel drops open on chains to reveal a fitted interior with divided shelving, providing functional storage while maintaining the highly sculptural exterior. Side panels are also extensively carved. Rich dark wood with an aged patina consistent with an antique or older decorative furnishing.
