Description

This interesting object is the painting “Des Enfants” by internationally renowned Israeli artist Moshe Tamir (b. 1924 in Odessa, d. 2004) from 1988.

The painting features two human figures and three animals. The motifs are highly alienated, but the formulation of the hair makes it possible to see a girl on the left half of the picture and a boy on the right half of the picture. The girl is holding a cat and in front of the boy is a dog with a cat sitting on it.
Despite the unrecognizability of the motifs and the abstraction of forms, the painting makes a cheerful and playful impression thanks to the artist's interesting and unique brushwork.

Tamir completed his studies at the Bezalel Academy of Arts in Israel in 1947. There he received a Struck Prize from the painter Mordechai Ardon. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. During his studies, he specialized in fresco and monumental painting. At the same time, he was assisting the famous fresco painter Prozzo Parchi in the church of St. Eugene in Rome. By working closely with Parchi, he was able to refine his skills so that he could create works using different techniques. This includes oil, fresco, drawing and gouache paintings. One of his most famous frescoes called “Amonon Wounded” is still in the Tel Aviv Museum today.
After moving to Paris in 1954, he lived and worked with Constantin Brâncusi, Jean Tinguely and Jean Dubuffet. At the same time, he attended the School of Fine Arts there. During this time, he developed his own version of Nouvelle Figuration: He blends everyday themes with mythological content, which is formulated with thick, colorful and exhilarating layers of paint. His style achieved international fame, so that he received commissions for monumental frescoes in Chicago and Mexico City. He was also invited to display his works of art in four exhibitions at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels - one of which was with the famous painter Pablo Picasso. Prominent and noble guests such as King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola also came to admire his art. Some of his works are in private collections of noble houses, such as the collection of Queen Elizabeth of Belgium and the collection of Queen Silvia of Sweden. To this day, his works of art have a permanent place in museums around the world: Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Amsterdam, Bogota, Caracas, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia and much more.
