MUNKACZ RABBIS AND SHOCHTIM – APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE AMERICAN EZRAS TORAH RELIEF ORGANISATION, WITH SEVERAL LINES AND SIGNATURE OF THE REBBE OF MUNKACZ, RABBI BARUCH RABINOWICZ (1915-1998) .

This historic letter, written in 1939, following the enactment of anti-Shechita laws due to the pre-WWII growth in anti-semitism. The legislation banned the shechita of animals, resulting in a severe loss of income to the shochtim. In this letter, the Rabbis of the Munkacz Beis Din (Rabbinical Court), Rabbi Menachem Weiss, Rabbi Chaim Sofer and Rabbi Natta Shlomo Schlissel, appeal to the Ezras Torah relief fund in America to come to the assistance of the shochtim in their time of need. The letter includes a remarkable prophetic oral tradition in the name of the Rebbe of Siniawa (Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam) that the time would come when America would be the source of relief for the European Jewish communities.

The Rebbe of Munkacz, Rabbi Baruch Rabinowicz adds a few lines and his signature in support of this appeal.

Rabbi Baruch Yehoshua Yerachmiel Rabinowicz, son of Rabbi Nassan David of Partzov and son-in-law of Rabbi Chaim Elazar Shapira of Munkacz. Renowned as an iluy from a young age, he was chosen by the Rebbe of Munkacz as chasan for his only daughter. After the passing of his father-in-law, he succeeded him as Rebbe and as Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Munkacz. He miraculously escaped to Eretz Israel in 1944, and is the father of the current Rebbe of Munkacz and of the Rebbe of Dinov in the USA.
