Bronze age. Double axe with oval shaft hole and flaring blades. Upper edge chased with symbols in prehistoric linear script, relating to linear A and linear B scripts. Paperwork accompanying this piece has catalog page stating Mycenaean. Receipt from Charles Ede lists axe with description: Minoan, 8th c. BC. Dimensions: (Blade) L 8.5" x W 3" x D 1.5" Condition: Some bright green and red encrustation. Intact, with edge chips. On custom base. Provenance: Collection of Stephenson, Greenwich, CT. Acquired from Charles Ede, London, September 2006. Prior to Ede, private Israeli collection.
