Constructed of iron plates riveted together with the rear ridge left standing, covered in black lacquer and fitted with a three-lame shikoro lace in blue sugake lacing, the fukigaeshi with stenciled leather and applied with gilt-metal crests of the Sugiura clan, the mabizashi applied with stenciled leather and fitted with a gilt-metal kuwagata-dai decorated with scrolling vines in low relief, supporting a gilt brass kuwagata and a large gold-lacquered wood maedate of a demon with inlaid glass eyes
