MYRNA LOY AND CLARK GABLE
In front of and behind a Newsreel camera during the filming of Jack Conway’s movie “Too Hot to Handle” (A Very Special Envoy), 1938.
Photograph, silver print on matte paper and vintage card stock, stamped (numbers) and annotated on the back.
20.3 x 25.2 cm including borders.
The black mark on the actress’s face is part of the photograph (makeup).

Note: Clark Gable plays Chris Hunter, a newsreel reporter who is as daring as he is unscrupulous, willing to stage events to get ahead of his competitors. Myrna Loy plays Alma Harding, a determined aviator seeking to finance an expedition to find her brother, who has gone missing in the Amazon. Their meeting in China kicks off an adventure comedy blending journalistic rivalry, aviation, and romance. Through the competition between Hunter and his colleague Bill Dennis, played by Walter Pidgeon, the film pokes fun at the sensationalist practices of newsreel companies, which were essential to cinematic news coverage at the time. Directed by Jack Conway for MGM, the film brings together two of the studio’s most popular stars.
