[ translate ]

"New Beethoven Letters", Translated and Annotated by Donald W MacArdle and Ludwig Misch, published by University of Oklahoma Press, 1957, First edition, First printing.

Containing nearly five hundred items, this volume is a collection of all known writings of Ludwig van Beethoven (other than notations in Conversation Books and Journals) which did not appear in the Kalischer "Complete Edition" published in 1909 (Beethoven's Letters, translated by J.S. Shedlock, 2 vols., London), and includes a few letters that were incomplete or defective in that edition. Since an actually complete edition does not yet exist, either in the original language or in English, this book fills a wide gap in Beethoven biography." [from the front flap]
