Maestro del XVII Secolo - Cristo incoronato di spine

[ translate ]

\Artist: Maestro del XVII Secolo
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 76_87_5_cm
Antique painting, oil on canvas, XVII century, depicting Christ crowned with thorns. The subject takes up the Christ crowned with thorns painted by Annibale Carracci, probably in Rome between 1595 and 1597 and currently preserved at the National Gallery of Bologna. The great appreciation of the work is evidenced by the various copies produced at the time, one of which attributed to Andrea Sacchi and preserved at the Prado Museum in Madrid. The painting was also the subject of a couple of translations into engraving, the first of which was made by Sebastiano Vaiani in 1627. The painting offered here shows an admirable quality of pigment and drafting, resulting in very fine workmanship, so as to make us think that the author may be sought among the pupils and followers of the master. Framed with beautiful and quite recent frame, which is lacquered, golden and decorated with leaves pattern. In overall fairly good condition, considering its age. There are some scattered restorations and some peeling of the surface, but nothing truly relevant. There are no conservation issues and the original canvas is supported by an old re-lining that does not seem to require restoration. Fine craquelure compatible with age. It looks like the stretcher was replaced, probably when the painting was relined. Canvas size: 57 x 68 cm. Frame size: 76 x 87 cm. With photographic certificate of authenticity, in accordance with the current law. Shipping via insured express courier, packaged with the utmost care.
