17th century master, Saint Francis de Sales, oil on canvas, dimensions 73 x 58 cm. This intense portrait of Saint Francis de Sales was almost certainly born in the 1860s, that is, in the decade of the beatification and sanctification of the bishop of Geneva. It was typical, in fact, that after the canonization many portraits of the new saints were born.
