Northern Italian master of the late 16th - early 17th century, probable scope of Guglielmo Caccia known as Il Moncalvo (1568 - 1625) , Madonna with child, oil on canvas mounted on panel, dimensions 17. 3 x 13. 5 cm, in an antique frame (18th century) . This small scene of Madonna with child was born as part of a devotional commission and is linked to the tradition of Piedmontese painting of the late sixteenth century with particular affinities to the sphere of Guglielmo Caccia and his daughter Orsola Maddalena Caccia. The work comes from a prestigious Alexandrian collection that housed other works by Moncalvo and his workshop. The state of conservation is good: the work has some not recent restorations and the canvas was mounted on a plywood tablet in the twentieth century. It is presented in a beautiful gilded carved wooden frame dating back to the 18th century and very well preserved (only some superficial gilding falls taken with a brush) .
