Magic Blue Butterflies under glass domes - Papilio ulysses & Morpho menelaus - 30×20×20 cm - 2

A unique lot with 2 stunning glass domes, prepared with the finest A quality butterflies. From the collection: Butterfly Artwork - Designed & Crafted by Robert Mars ( see tag/photos) . First (left) Dome: prepared with 3 Papilio Ulysses also named Blue Emperor Butterflies. Dimensions Glass Dome: H30cm and D20cm. Second (right) Dome: prepared with 3 beautiful Morpho Menelaus Butterflies. Dimensions Glass Dome: H30cm and D20cm. The blue color of the Morpho butterfly is not caused by pigment but by the microscopic structure of the wings and is therefore a structural color. The color changes somewhat with the observation angle and the intensity increases strongly with striking light. This is called irising. The males are brighter in color than the females who also have a brown border with white spots on the front wing. The underside of the wings is brown with different 'eyes'. The butterfly has a wingspan of between 100 and 120 millimeters. Notice: The butterflies are not wild-caught but farmed to create this piece.
