Questa convinta difesa del magnetismo animale molto contribuì alla diffusione delle teorie magnetiche in Germania, allorchè già stavano accennando a decadere in Francia (in Germania percontro il movimento romantico le fece venire in auge a cavallo tra il XVIIII e il XIX secolo). L'autore, Eberhard Gmelin (1751-1809), appartenente alla famosa dinastia omonima di chimici e naturalisti tedeschi, imputava le turbe motorie (paralisi e convulsioni) ad alterazioni nella distribuzione dello "spirito vitale", che interagiva coll'ambiente mediante le forze del magnetismo animale.

This convincing defense of animal magnetism greatly contributed to the dissemination of magnetic theories in Germany, when they were already referring to decay in France (in Germany the romantic movement made her come to life in the 17th and 19th centuries). The author, Eberhard Gmelin (1751-1809), belonging to the famous dynasty of the same name of German chemists and naturalists, attributed the motor turbines (paralysis and convulsions) to alterations in the distribution of the "vital spirit", which interacted with the environment through forces Of animal magnetism.
