Magnificent carved bureau table in the Baroque neo-Gothic style. France 19th century.

Magnificent carved bureau table in the Baroque neo-Gothic style. The terraced structure of work surfaces, with two-tiered storage units and a double-door cabinet, is topped with a Baroque cartouche with a mirror and figures of mischievous putti with grapes. They rest on a carved platform with curved legs, whose lines are entwined with winged gargoyles and snakes. The table drawer panel is completely hidden by a carved garland of flowers and a wave of a sliding board. An acanthus ribbon borders the tabletop. The long necks of snake birds act as strict guardians of the table. Curled into rings, they impart a special mood and historical allusions to the object. Ribbons of acanthus surround the tiers, where contrasting decor of intertwined vines and flowers, panels of rose vignettes, complement the decoration. France, second half of the 19th century. Width 120 cm, depth 80 cm, height to tabletop 77 cm, total height 170 cm. Keys included.
