Beautiful impressive Buddhist statue of Acala or Fudō Myō-ō 不動明王, the Immovable One Japan, ca. 1250-1300, Kamakura period Very old large wooden statue Base is from later date. Fudō Myō-ō is depicted as a warlike and wrathful deity which represent the power of Buddhism to overcome the passions. He has a furious, glaring face and stands on a rock (because Fudō is “immovable” in his faith) . A very rare Japanese wooden Buddhist statue in remarkable condition given the age.
