[ translate ]

Mahmoud Sabri (1927 - 2012)

Cross Bearer
inscribed After Bosch (to the reverse)
oil on canvas
73.7 by 83.9 cm.; 29 by 33 in.
Framed: 76 by 85.8 cm.; 30 by 33¾ in.
Executed in the late 1960s.

Condition Report:
This work is in fairly good condition. There is light craquelure along the left edge of the canvas against the frame, slightly more concentrated on each of the canvas corners. There appears to be pinpoints of paint-loss on the female's headdress. There is very slight buckling to the right corner. Along the upper right side of the canvas, there is a slight linear crease. Towards the bottom of the canvas, there is a similar crease with very minor paint loss. There appears to be no sign of restoration when viewed under UV light.

The online images may represent colours and shades which are different to the lot's actual colour and shades. Unlike a print catalogue there is no standardized colour profile to enable a constant visual representation for online media. In the absence of an industry certified media colour profile for viewing images online, each device whether it be an iPhone, Samsung, laptop, iPad, etc., will display the images to their own unique device setting, therefore the final visual result will always vary.

If a condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot, it is for guidance purposes only. Such condition report may not refer to all faults, restoration, alterations, or adaptations because Sotheby's is not a professional conservator or restorer but rather a condition report is a statement of subjective, qualified opinion genuinely held by Sotheby's. For these reasons, any such condition report is not an alternative to taking your own professional advice regarding the condition of the lot. Prospective buyers should also refer to the Guide for Buyers at Auction which includes important notices concerning the type of property in this sale.

Provenance:
