Majolica Cobalt-Blue Ground Egg and Swan Pitcher
Circa 1875
Black painted 414 and 11, attributed to T.C. Brown-Westhead Moore & Co.
Modeled as a white swan nesting on a large oviform egg, the curved swan's neck and a gather of bulrushes reeds forming the handle, its wing tips forming the spout, on a rocky ledge. Height 17 1/2 inches.

Note:
The present form is based on the Sèvres porcelain vase cygne à roseau en bruire. A close variation of this model was produced by Hugo Lonitz, shape no. 1425. A smaller version of this model has also been attributed to Bevington (see example in this collection, lot no. 1070).
