Malachite & Chrysocolla L'Etoile du Congo Mine Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga DR Congo This colorful and vibrant mineral specimen is a Malachite and Chrysocolla from the famed L'Etoile du Congo Mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The large plate-type example features broad, well-formed botryoidal crystals with a visually striking color combination and nice luster. The piece is generational and showcases each layer of growth. It seems the first layer of the associated Copper minerals is robin's-egg blue Chrysocolla, followed by a thick layer of green Malachite, followed by another layer of dark blue Chrysocolla, and topped with a thin layer of Malachite. Over time, this large specimen has begun to shed thin layers exposing the stunning layers of multi-colored blue Chrysocolla and green Malahcite. This colorful cabinet-sized specimen is one visually captivating matrix example.
