Malachite on Cuprite covered with microcrystalline Quartz Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia "Botryoidal cuprite altered on its exterior to malachite and covered with tiny brilliant quartz crystals that make it sparkle like mad in the sun light. Got this specimen when I bought the Denny Sutherland collection. There must have been just one small pocket of these. The Smithsonian has a somewhat larger one, but other that that one it is the only one I have ever seen." - Rock H. Currier Specimen producing mines often gain a reputation for the great quantity and quality of a few minerals found within. Tsumeb has acquired a deserved reputation for the vast variety of minerals from the deposit as well as their generally high level of perfection and size. Not all of the unusual minerals from Tsumeb were found throughout the mine, and, in some cases, only one 'pocket' was found and collected by savvy miners. So it is with this 'jewel', a sparkling treasure found in a single cavity with but a scant few others. Overall Measurements: 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.0 inches (9.0 x 9.0 x 5.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Denny Sutherland Collection [RHC #414, acquired 1964] MinID 196-7E7 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
