Malcolm Forbes Estate Museum Heyde Soudanesen Military Miniatures

An exceptionally rare original boxed set of twelve Gebruder Heyde military miniatures represents "Soudanesen" (Sudanese) infantry units serving under Egyptian or Anglo-Egyptian authority during the late 19th or early 20th century. The solid pewter or semi-flat tinplate figures are hand-painted and arranged as a parade formation featuring a standard bearer carrying a large red battalion flag, a cymbal player, and ten marching infantrymen dressed in white uniforms with red fezzes, blue tassels, and specialized equipment packs. The figures were designed with interchangeable plug-in heads, and one marching soldier is missing his head piece. The soldiers measure approximately 4.5 cm H from base to head. This historic grouping is accompanied by its original decorative maroon cardstock retail storage box with an elaborate blue-and-white illustrated cover label displaying various international exhibition prize medals. Also included is an official Christie's auction certificate of authenticity from the prestigious 1997 sale of the Malcolm Forbes Museum of Military Miniatures in Tangier, identifying the set as Lot No. 449.
