Malcolm Furlow was an American painter associated with Taos and the contemporary art of the Southwest, known for bold, highly saturated depictions of Native figures, cowboys, buffalo, and Western life. Born in Wyoming and later active in New Mexico, he first studied art at the University of Texas before leaving to work as a professional musician for many years, eventually returning to painting and developing the vivid, expressionistic style for which he became best known. His work is distinguished by electrifying color, flattened forms, and a dynamic, modern reimagining of Western subject matter.
