Hitchock RWA, British 1929-1998- Ffestiniog Railway, Tan-Y-Bwych, 1962; tempera on board, inscribed and with artist label affixed to the reverse of the frame, 24.1 x 37 cm (ARR) Exhibited: with the United Society of Artist (according to the card affixed by string to the reverse of the frame) Note: Hitchcock worked in a faux-naive style which incorporated pointillist brushstrokes, frequently depicting trains and railway stations. A label on the reverse of the label is inscribed by the artist, 'This picture should at no time be varnished as this can damage the egg tempera underpainting. In any case it has been protected with dissolved beeswax. M.J. Hitchcock 1962'.
