Man Ray (American, 1890-1976) Dorothea Tanning and Juliet Man Ray, Sedona, Arizona, 1940s Gelatin silver print, printed later 3-1/8 x 4 inches (7.9 x 10.2 cm) (image/sheet) Titled in pencil, verso. This shot of Ray's wife Juliet, and Tanning, renowned artist and family friend, was taken at the Tanning/Ernst property on Brewer Road in Sedona, Arizona. Out in the fresh snow, the pair hold hands while sitting on a car. Man Ray loved this particular car, using it often in his work. Describing his purchase of it, Ray said, "I decided to get a car. It should be a new one. I did some window shopping. Then I saw my car, discreetly advertised. It was a low, closed body, four-seater, completely streamlined without any excess chrome trimmings, the finish, metallic blue, the interior blue, my favorite color. I could see myself in it with my bright blue tweed jacket livening up the color." HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
