Spanish/Catalan School, oil on canvas. Dimensions: 63 x 51 cm (83 x 72 cm with frame) . Signed at the bottom left "M Surroca". The painting has recently been cleaned. An old restoration can be seen at the back, but is invisible at the front. On the frame is an old sticker of the art gallery Sala Rovira in Barcelona. Heavy frame painted over with gold paint. Manel Surroca Claret (Camprodon 1917 – 2007) fled to Paris at the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. There he fell under the spell of the famous Impressionists and adopted their style. Later he evolved towards expressionism, under the influence of Picasso. His use of color is strongly influenced by Van Gogh. This work is painted in a beautiful classical impressionist style, which Surroca only practiced in his Paris period between 1936 and 1940. Origin: auction house in Belgium.
