Manner of John Frederick Herring Snr.
Description
A study of a horse
inscribed 'J F H 1851' (lower right)
oil on panel
24.5 x 29cm
Provenance:
Landwade Hall, Exning, Suffolk
Condition report:
Framed 39 x 44.5cm
Oil on board. The board appears to be roughly cut when viewed from the reverse and it is possible that the work is on card which has been mounted onto panel, this would need to be investigated. The paint layer is in a good condition overall. There are a few dents and lumps across the surface which appear to have been present when the work was painted. There is very fine scale flaking occurring around the horse's bridle which has led to small losses. The varnish is matte and yellowed with a dark appearance and some brown accretions.
