Manner of Justus DaLee (American, New York/Wisconsin, 1793-1878) Two Portrait Miniatures; "Portrait of Mary Rice, Wife of Colonel H.Rice, Aged 76 Years," and "Hercules Rice, Son of Mary Rice, " c.1840, pencil and ink on paper, framed. Condition: Mary Rice with toning to paper, but in good condition. Hercules with toning to paper and remnants of prior framing in area where spandrel would have been. Note: Justus DaLee’s family including his wife, brother, son and two daughters all created portraits as part of a family enterprise. DaLee and family called themselves “Side Portrait Painters” specifically portraying subjects in profile. Dimensions: 3 x 2.5 in. 1st. 2.5 x 2 in. 2nd. Condition: Faded with losses.
