Manteno Pottery Coatimundi Whistle
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manteno culture, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery whistle figure depicting a seated coatimundi with bent legs, broad shoulders, bent arms holding a piece of fruit to the protruding snout, and a rounded head with perky ears and hoop-form eyes. The highly burnished surfaces are accentuated with orange-red slip that has taken on an espresso-brown hue over time. A conical mouthpiece protruding from the back emits a rather loud, high-pitched sound when played. Size: 1.7" W x 3.375" H (4.3 cm x 8.6 cm)
