1902 - 2002
Retrato de lo Eterno (Portrait de l'éternel)

Exécuté en 1935.

Condition Report:
Please note the colors and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings.

This early print is on single-weight paper with a surface sheen. It is a remarkably open printing of the negative, with a higher level of detail visible than in the more common later prints. This is particularly notable in the shadowed portion of the sitter's face and in the pattern of her dress.

This photograph is in generally good condition. There is subtle age-appropriate silvering in the dark areas of the image. Upon close examination, several creases, some of which may break the emulsion, are visible, including a 3/8-inch linear sharp crease in the centre right; 2 diagonal soft creases at the upper right corner; and a few small handling creases. The following are visible in raking light: a 1/2-inch linear impression in the lower right corner; surface pitting; hairline scratches; and a few fingerprints. The print is trimmed to the image and the edges are worn. There is minuscule chipping and a tiny tear along the right edge. Rice paper tape hinges on the reverse partially obscure the titling. When examined under ultraviolet light, this photograph does not appear to fluoresce.

Framed dimensions: 18 3/4 by 14 3/4 in. (47.6 by 37.5 cm.)

Provenance:
Collection of the photographer

By descent through family

Fine Arts of Ancient Lands, Inc., New York, 1989
