[ translate ]

Manuscript - Passover haggadah with a deep Kabbalistic commentary. Typical Yemenite script. The body of the haggadah is in vowelized block script. The comments are in unvowelized cursive script. Several instructions in Arabic. [Yemen, late 18th century or early 19th century.]

This manuscript is similar to the script of Mori Yichye ben Shlomo Avitz, one of the most prominent dayanim in Sana'a.

This important commentary is unknown, and to the best of our examination, it has never been printed.

The commentary demonstrates that its writer was clearly a first-rate scholar.

P. [2]: "It is forbidden to divide Hashem's Name. The custom of Rabbi Tzalach on the second night of Passover was ..."

P. [15]: "Know that the wine which remains in the cup should be filled with wine. It is similar to the wine in a woman that turns into milk ..."

P. [16] "Know, my brother, that the custom of the entire Jewish people when they get to 'Kammah Ma'alot Tovot, etc.' is that those gathered around say 'Dayeinu.'"

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Yichye ben Shlomo Avitz.

[32] written pages. Lacking the conclusion. 17 cm.

Moderate-fine condition. Faded ink in several places. Aging stains and usage marks. Tears and wear in the margins, some completed with paper.
