Salmi e preghiere del Vespro e Officium VII dolorum B. V. M. Palermo - 1754 - (circa) Large folio: 45 x 31. 5 cm. 104 pp. The approximate dating is given by the term post quem of the " Novo Decreto S. R. C, die 17 - julii 1754", quoted on page 52 and extended to the " Clero Secolare e Regolare del Regno di Sicilia". Excellent manuscript, large format, with 104 numbered pages (the two blank sheets and the sheet with pp. 49/50 are missing) on heavy paper, all handwritten by the same person, with large capital letters and abbreviations. Minium red lowercase letters, like the large initials at the beginning of each psalm and their titles. On p. 52 there is a cover page (?) with large red and black letters for the Officium VII Dolorum B. M. V. concerning a 1754 decree for the use of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The two sheets at the beginning and end of the manuscript, most likely blank, are missing. This can be seen from the lack of a frame (present in all pages with the text, numbered from 1 to 104) detectable in the fragments still present on the aforementioned pages, and the completeness of the text. We do not know the contents of the missing sheet with pp. 49/50. Pages in excellent condition. Originally bound text, with beautiful 16th-17th century cover, full robust leather with wooden body and a very sturdy spine with 6 raised bands. Decorations engraved on the plates, where there are some abrasions. The condition of the binding is still very good. Bookplate (back cover) of Jole De Simone, a well-known Sicilian writer. Old handwritten signature of a previous owner (?) on p. 52. Superb, monumental, and rare copy.
