Manuscript of Sefer Mishpat Leshon Hakodesh by the leading grammarian Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Hanau. Early 18th century.

Beautiful, thick manuscript of almost 300 densely written pages containing a complete, comprehensive grammar book – the grammar rules of the letters, vowels, names, verbs and Te'amim. By the leading grammarian Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Hanau.

The book is titled on the top of the leaves Mishpat Leshon Hakodesh and at its beginning there is a foreword titled Yesodot Habinyan – Mishpat HaOtiyot.

Apparently, this work is a Mahadura Kama of his work Sha'arei Torah (Hamburg, 1718).

On the flyleaf, a handwritten notation: "I studied this book from the wonderous Torani the grammarian Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Hanau Katz author of Sefer Binyan Shlomo".

Beneath the above notation, there is a lengthy handwritten foreign notation. On verso of the leaf, there is a notation: "Belongs to the youth Leib the son of K.H. Hirsch Katz…".
On the last couple of leaves, there are varied handwritten calculations and varied notations and Yiddish-Deutsch.

The grammarian Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Hanau [1687-1746]: one of the greatest grammarians in the late 17th century. Formulated many Hebrew grammar rules; multiple changes he had suggested in the version of the prayer took root and were accepted by Gedolei Hadorot (although the Yavetz strongly disagreed with him).

His published works include: Binyan Shlomo (Frankfurt, 1708), Sha'arei Torah and Sha'arei Zimrah (Hamburg, 1718), Sha'arei Tefillah and Siddur Beit Tefillah (Jessnitz, 1725), Yesod Hanikud (Amsterdam, 1730), Tzohar Hateivah (Berlin, 1733).

139 leaves + [2] leaves of varied calculations and notations in Yiddish Deutsch. Fine eloquent Ashkenazic script. 20 cm. Very good condition. Worn ancient binding.

Manuscript of a most important book by one of the leading grammarians.
