Italy, 18th century.Folio format manuscript on laid paper in Italian, text in brown ink in a secretarial hand, nineteen lines per page; the text divided into two sections; the first 282 pages dedicated to the history of Italy, followed by four blank leaves, and 100 pages on the history of England; bound in full contemporary parchment over boards, decorative floral patterned endleaves printed in colored and metallic ink, ex libris Sir Thomas Phillipps with manuscript shelf number MS 11859 on title; the title likely later, with period ink sketch, 11 1/2 x 8 in.This unidentified text is presented as two distinct histories, the section on Italy covers the years 1501 to 1667; the English section 1509-1667. Highlights and current events are covered, with date headings in the side margins. The entry for 1633 mentions Galileo's trouble with the Inquisition and his endorsement of the Copernican system.
