a pair of albums with calligraphic text and watercolour illustrations (many grisaille), first volume with twenty-eight mounted watercolours on rectos (four small watercolours to first leaf, thereafter one large watercolour to each leaf), 28 x 21.5cm (11 x 8.5ins) and smaller, most mounts with manuscript text (and some with decorative embellishments), two album leaves blank (one with loosely inserted pencil sketch), two leaves detached, second volume with twenty-nine mounted watercolours on rectos, mounted two to a page, except the final illustration, each approximately 9 x 16cm (3.5 x 6.25ins), each with manuscript text on facing versos, often embellished with floral and foliate decoration, album leaves toned and spotted (occasionally encroaching on watercolours), ownership names of 'Mrs. Duthoit, 184, Highbury New Park' and 'J. Duthoit', respectively, red edges, similarly bound in brown and green blindstamped morocco gilt, rubbed and some edge-wear, second volume with front cover detached at upper joint, 4to
Carefully executed watercolours by an accomplished amateur. The Duthoits were prosperous silk weavers who originated in Lille and worked in Canterbury, before setting up business in London.
