Marasali Prayer Rug
Late 19th century, 170 x 135 cm, East Caucasus, Shirvan region
A repeat of small flowering plants in restrained colours hermetically covers the midnight blue field of this rare Marasali prayer rug. The inconspicuous prayer niche with a triangular apex is only perceived upon closer inspection. A decisive factor in attributing this very finely woven Shirvan to the Marasali group is the design of the narrow white-ground main border of abstract birds. – Good condition, original finishes all around.
