Marc Davis "It's a Small World" Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, c. 1963-64). Created for the original "It's a Small World" attraction at the 1964 New York World's Fair, this is a remarkably rare original concept drawing by the hand of Disney Legend and Imagineer Marc Davis (1913 - 2000). Featuring concepts for the sun, moon, and façade, this early work was integral to the design and development of one of Walt Disney's most beloved attractions. Marc Davis collaborated with fellow Disney Legend and concept artist Mary Blair to create the iconic ride, a process that took a year to complete. A similar image to this sketch can be seen on page 214 of the book Marc Davis: In His Own Words - Imagineering the Disney Theme Parks Volume 1. The book reads, "To design and install a Disney level attraction in one year would be taxing for the already overworked group of designers. Regardless, Marc began generating hundreds of sketches exploring the look of the children's attraction as early as April 1963, clearly referencing the look and feel of Mary Blair's sophisticated designs." This rare find is rendered in ink on a sheet of 10" x 8" sketch paper. Overall minor handling and edge wear, and the condition is Very Good. From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
